Stress Reduction Techniques That Work

Article by Steve Hill

Would you say that you stress more than the average person? Are you looking for techniques which will help you to reduce the amount you stress? If you have answered either of these two questions in the positive then this article may well be of interest to you.

I was always one of life’s worriers; I worried about everything and anything. I would stress about what other people thought of me, I would worry about money, my love life or lack of it, my health and my work life.

The main reason for my negative attitude and stressful way of life was due to the fact that I had a stuttering problem. The stutter seemed to take over my life and caused me many an embarrassing moment. Inside of me I felt angry, why was I chosen to have this stutter?

As I became older I realised just how important it was to find a way to cure the stutter and to change my whole approach to life.

At the age of twenty-two I was more than fortunate to meet a very educated at the insurance company where I worked. He was instrumental in helping me to finally learn how to handle stress; his name was Ian.

Ian was in his fifties and made me see my problems in a whole different life. As an example the problems that I have, or think I have, are in fact very minor in comparison to the issues that other people have. As an example this week we have all seen on our television screens the scenes from the tidal wave tragedy in Burma. I am sure these poor, hungry people; many of them who have lost loved ones in the disaster would love to swap lives with me, stutter or no stutter.

I now appreciate what I have in life, rather than stressing about what I do not have, perhaps you should do the same.

Article by Steve Hill

Do you suffer from depression? Have you lost the will to live? Are you seeking a solution to your problems with depression? These are three questions that I would have certainly answered yes to a couple of years ago. I have however managed to eradicate the depression that plagued my life for so many years and am now able to live a happy and contented life.

The cause of my personal depression

I have to say that the main cause of my depression was due to the fact that I had a stutter. This speech impediment basically ruined my life for eighteen years and was something that would often leave me feeling quite sorry for myself.

I feared for my overall future. How would I be able to get on in the world with this frustrating stutter? I was fully aware of just how it would negatively impact on my prospects for employment, relationships with friends and members of the opposite sex and overall confidence/happiness.

The solution

I was very fortunate to meet a very educated man called Jason when I was aged twenty-two. He persuaded me to fight back against all of my demons and gave me the belief that I would be able to overcome the stutter, as well as eradicating the depression.

You need to believe in yourself, you need to understand that there is a lot of people in a worse position than you and you need to be thankful of what you do have rather than solely concentrating on what you do not have, explained Jason.

You need to leave no stone unturned in your quest to achieve fluency and finding a solution to your apparent depression issues.

The result

I am pleased to report that after working extremely hard I was able to find a cure for stuttering and was also able to find happiness, the depression and stutter have both been eradicated for once and for all.

Situations That May Arouse Fear

Article by Jeams Hinaloc

When a stutterer is called upon to answer a question in front of an audience, such as in a school classroom, at a business meeting, or at a religious gathering, it may cause anxiety that results in a severe bout of stuttering. Are there times when you think it’s just much easier to keep quiet a 15-year-old South African stutterer named Rosanne was asked in a radio interview. She replied, Often, for example, in the classroom situation when I have a nice answer that I know will really earn me marks but I know it’s too much of an effort to actually talk.

A businessman named Simon was also interviewed on the radio program mentioned above. Like Rosanne, Simon has made improvement with the help of speech therapy. But sometimes he still has a bad episode of stuttering. This can be aggravated by the attitude of his audience. If you’re in a board meeting where you have to do a fair amount of speaking and you are having a bad time, the people around that table get very, very impatient,he explains.

In light conversation with friends, she often manages to speak quite fluently. She also shares zealously in evangelizing work that requires approaching strangers uninvited. But she has a fear common to many stutterers speaking before a large audience. “At our meetings, explains Lisa,I seldom manage to put up my hand and answer a question. If I answer at all, it is at most one word or a short sentence. Although it may be little, it is my best. Often, the answers are in my head and on my lips because I always prepare in advance. But my tongue just refuses to cooperate.

A worse experience for some stutterers is having to read aloud. This forces them to use words they would normally avoid. At one of our meetings,”Lisa continues, we are sometimes asked to take turns reading the Scripture texts under discussion. On such occasions I sit in fear, fidgeting, waiting for my turn, not knowing if I will manage to read the text or not. Sometimes I read but cannot pronounce a certain word. Then I just skip it and continue reading.”

Obviously, careful thought needs to be given before encouraging a stutterer to read aloud. Such encouragement could make the stutterer feel worse. Instead, such a person deserves to be warmly commended for doing his or her best.

Article by Claire Adams

Speaking fluently in whatever language there might be is very important in order to bring the message clearly and without experiencing any misconceptions or misunderstandings between speakers. However, if you tend to stutter more often than supposed to, you might want to look into some speech therapy for stuttering. This way you can avoid stuttering or stammering, especially if you have a very important matter to discuss.Should you want to become a better speaker or communicator, it is important that you should lessen the time you stutter. There are lots of factors which cause one to stutter and learning some of them can lead you to finding the best therapy for stuttering. In some cases, some people are unfortunate enough to have been born with the habit of stuttering. This can be triggered by some physical defects which become a burden to the person to speak more clearly.Access Kill Your Stammer Now!Learning how to communicate better is very important. And having a remarkable communication skill can influence your life in so many ways. May it be at work or just within your home, being able to speak fluently can mean relief to the person you are talking to. On the other hand, if you often stutter than usual, your listener will either find you exhausting to listen to or worse, embarrassment is most likely the end result. One of the best ways to get rid of the habit of stuttering is to consider speaking more slowly. The reason behind this is that you might want to wait for your mouth to have the time to pronounce each word clearly in a single try before going to the next. Though you might think that this can eat up more of your time, this is in fact better than being asked to repeat all the things you have said earlier. To get you started on the right foot, you might want to face the mirror more often. Talking in front of a mirror may seem just a basic therapy for stuttering. But if you do it quite often enough, you will later on notice that stuttering will no longer become an issue for you.Access Kill Your Stammer Now!

It had possibly started because the toddlers father had quite a severe stutter, the boy may of picked up his stutter this way.

Many other people contact me asking why their toddler has developed a stutter and asking what forms of stutter treatments are available.

I always suggest that they keep as patient as they can and try to play games, speech games with their child. They can challenge the child to say the word fluently, they show their child how it should be said and then challenge them to do the same. When they do manage to say that particular word fluently they then heap lots of praise onto the child, telling them how clever they are and how proud mommy and daddy are of them. I even advise giving them a reward like a small chocolate bar.

If instead of being patient, parents or relatives are aggressive, saying things like:

“Get your words out boy”

“Spit it out!”

These types of comments can have a very negative effect and make that child withdraw into their shell. This may to some people seem very obvious to say, however you would not believe the amount of people who have told me this is what they were told as an infant.

I had a stutter myself from the age of four. I went to see many speech therapists who offered me advice which basically consisted of slowing down my rate of speech and to take a deep breath before I spoke. This did not really work for me and I have to admit my attitude was not what it should have been as I believed that it was impossible for the therapist to understand what I was going through as they had never had a stutter.

After coping with the speech impediment for eighteen years I had had enough and went about trying to find my own stuttering solution.

It took me nearly a year to beat the stutter and as a career I now help other people to achieve fluency.

Article by Steve Hill

Mum, I need to somehow find a way to eradicate this stutter from my life; it is starting to really get me down. The speech therapy that I have been attending for the last thirteen years is just not working. Is there any chance that you can try to find some other form of therapy for me? Is there any specialist stuttering course out there which could help me to achieve fluency?

The above conversation took place when I was around eighteen years of age. As you can no doubt tell I had had enough of living life with this most frustrating of speech impediments and was desperate to find a solution. My parents were superb and searched high and low for a suitable stuttering treatment program but unfortunately they could not ultimately locate the answers that we were all looking for. This was fully seventeen years, before the birth of the internet and I am happy to report that the treatments for stuttering have improved a great deal since then.

People who have a stutter are now able to choose from a multitude of therapy options. A very recent report highlighted that the most popular of these options and also the most beneficial is the one-to-one stuttering course, a course which is run by a former stutterer.

The report also suggested that there is an ever increasing demand for a home-based stuttering therapy program; or what is commonly referred to as a self-help stuttering therapy program. These are where people learn the stuttering cure techniques by watching a DVD, or by listening to an audio book or by reading a booklet or e-book.

With the home based/self-help therapy products there is often an ongoing support service which enables people to interact with the stuttering specialist to ensure maximum results (fluency). This is an essential back up which often comes at no additional cost. If this continued support network is not on offer then it would be advisable to find an alternative stuttering solution.

Is a Hypnotherapist Just a Quack?

Article by Roseanna Leaton

There are a lot of myths about hypnosis and hypnotherapy, most of which come about through not really knowing or appreciating what its all about. These myths can form a huge barrier to successful treatment.

The Kings Speech has recently won rather a lot of awards, and deservedly so. Colin Firth’s performance as the King who stuttered was absolutely brilliant. The movie?s screenwriter, David Seidler, was is an unusually good position to add deeper layers empathy to the script as he too had suffered from this same affliction in his younger years.

Lionel Logue, the King?s speech therapist, who stood by his side during every one of his wartime speeches, did not possess official medical or therapeutic qualifications. He was in fact what many would term a “quack”.

Quack or not, he got the job done, and that is what counts. The stutterer seeking help just wants to be helped; he or she wants to be able to perform the supposedly simple act of speaking ones mind and enunciating words clearly.

When we have a physical problem we naturally look for physical help. And in this wonderful movie we see this tendency in action as the King and his Queen keep looking for assistance with the mechanics of speaking, instead of looking deeper beneath the surface.

Logue knew from experience that speech difficulties such as stammering are not caused mechanically. Rather, he adhered to the principle of cause and effect. Stutters are not born with a stutter. Stuttering has psychological roots; most often a result of suppressed sobbing and suppressed anger in one’s earlier years.

You see in this movie the struggle which the King has in allowing himself to place his trust in a “quack”, even though by the time he realized that Logue had no relevant official qualifications he also knew that he was the only person who had managed to help him. You see this same struggle within almost every person who considers visiting a hypnotherapist.

A hypnotherapist, like Logue, has to find ways in which to assist his or her clients in overcoming these initial barriers. Almost every potential client has to get to grips with their own and society’s assumptions about what is orthodox treatment or what constitutes visiting some type of quack. And then there is the next deep fear that the treatment simply won’t work for them.

The fear of being unable to be hypnotized or lack of trust and understanding in how hypnosis can work are huge barriers to those considering treatment. There are also the myths that deep and hidden secrets will be explored and revealed and that one’s mind will be taken over and controlled. These erroneous beliefs also have to be overcome before treatment can begin.

A good experienced hypnotherapist is no more a quack than Lionel Logue, the experienced and superb speech therapist who was the only person who successfully treated the King’s stutter. There are also many instances where hypnotherapy has assisted a client when medical treatment (which is perceived as more orthodox) has not managed to provide relief, which is why I have drawn this comparison.<p.

A motivated person who really wants to be cured of something or other will find ways in which to overcome these internal mental barriers of assumption and perception. In fact, just a little reading and research into the topic of hypnosis and approaching treatment with an open mind is all that is required.

Are you on the look out for available stuttering therapy treatment programs? Have you had enough of living life with a stutter? If you have answered yes to both of these questions then this article may provide you with the information that you are looking for. I am going to be writing about the types of stuttering recovery courses that are available and about their benefits, I hope you enjoy the read.

A large amount of people have a stutter, it is apparently around one in every hundred with the majority of those who have this type of speech impediment being male. I was one such male, my stutter developed when I was a young boy; my parents have told me that I was four years of age when I started to stutter.

As I grew up I only had one real goal in life and that was to achieve fluency, I could not bare the thought of having a stutter for the rest of my life. I was able to fulfil this life long dream at the age of twenty-two when, after a lot of hard work, I was able to overcome the stutter.

During the eighteen years that I had a stutter the only real form of therapy seemingly came in the form of traditional speech therapy. This in my experience was basically worthless and left me very frustrated. Luckily nowadays treatments for stuttering have improved some what. There are now various forms of therapy available including specialist one to one speech courses as well as courses that run on a group basis.

By far the most beneficial are the one-to-one courses, especially the ones run by people who have previously had a stutter. These stuttering courses are where the speech coach can fully focus on the course attendee rather than having to think about coaching a whole group of people.

It is almost frequently described as a “balmy stutter,” or that the individual is anxious or doesn’t recognize what they are trying to tell. Cluttering has in the past been viewed as an eloquence disorder. Cluttering occurs when a person’s address accelerates to a more speedy rate than natural, when the private repeats syllables or phrases, and/or when a person goes backwards to reiterate things dual times in an attempt to have his or her address more clear-cut. When these happen, the private’s address literally becomes cluttered.

Causes of cluttering that are unusual to the private. The consumption of alcohol or drugs such as cannabis/marijuana may too shape cluttering. Conditions that impact density may be related to a person’s cluttering, and there may still be some prescription medications that are used to handle autonomous illnesses or conditions that could too take around cluttering as a position consequence. Cluttering is sometimes confused with stuttering. Both communication disorders fracture the natural flowing of address. However, while stuttering is almost frequently analyzed as an address disorder, cluttering is a word disorder.

Cluttering not simply affects address, but affects thought patterns, writing, typing, and conversation. Cluttering can frequently be confused with word postponement, word disorder, learning disabilities, and care shortfall disorder. People with ADD or ADHD may get many of the same symptoms as clutterers, including being careless, fidgety, brief tempered, and eager. There may be a medical cause for cluttering. Any ill which affects density can cause cluttering behavior. Equally, the consumption of prescription drugs which impact density bridge may induce a round of cluttering.

Abusing substances such as cannabis, which have a negative effect on concentration and perception, may cause longer lasting cluttering of speech. Treatment for cluttering usually takes longer than stuttering treatment. Delayed auditory feedback (DAF) is usually used to produce a more deliberate, exaggerated oral-motor response pattern. Other treatment components include improving narrative structure with story-telling picture books, turn-taking practice, pausing practice, and language therapy. Systematic misarticulations should be targeted by conventional articulation treatment strategies.

There are many types of treatment for people who have a stammer or stutter, this article describes some of them. Stuttering has gained a lot of coverage in the news over the last number of years with people like professional golfer Tiger Woods, singer Carly Simon, and John Stossel from ABC’s 20/20.

Speech therapy is the normal course of therapy people who stutter try. In my opinion this is useful however has limited power as the therapists themselves do not believe a stutter can be overcome. They are therefore merely helping people cope and from my own personal experience the main advice given, is to slow down when talking and to take a deep breath before speaking.

Hypnotherapy is another form of stuttering therapy. Success is no doubt largely dependent on the quality of the hypnotherapist involved. In my opinion stuttering is not only an emotional problem but also a physical problem and that hypnotherapy only deals with the emotional side.

Group speech courses is the next form of stuttering treatment. There are many of these type of courses which will either teach costal breathing, or slowed or prolonged speech. I think this form of stuttering help is better than the first two however I believe that every person is an individual and needs individual treatment with courses tailored to their individual needs.

Self help stop stuttering courses is what I found to be best form of treatment. With the course that I found, I was able to treat myself. I did not have to talk to a doctor, or go in front of a group and feel embarrassed. I was able to work one on one with myself. This is the form of stuttering treatment which I believe is likely to prove the most beneficial and successful and helped me stop stuttering in no time at all.

To see the great program that I found you can go to http://www.stop-stuttering-now.com, you will not regret getting the program and you will finally be able to have that self confidence back.
